Participants

We are excited to again present more than 50 artists, musicians, filmmakers and dancers in the context of new talents.

Together with selected graduates of the arts academies in Cologne and Düsseldorf we are also presenting recent graduates of the Kunstakademie Münster and the Fontys Dansacademie in Tilburg.


Arts/Media

new talents is showcasing works of 21 graduates from the Kunsthochschule für Medien Cologne, the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the Kunstakademie Münster. In 21 locations around the Cologne cultural quarter around Neumarkt you will be able to discover works of fine art and media art. Further venues are the Cologne based gallery ampersand, kunstgaleriebonn and Bonner Kunstverein. The works on display range from painting, sculpture, photography, video and performance to space and light installations, and some installations have been especially created by the artist for the exhibition space and its specific settings.

Film

Cologne is home to two renowned film academies, the Kunsthochschule für Medien (KHM) and the ifs (internationale filmschule köln), whose students are successfully featuring at many German and international film festivals each year.

Besides outstanding thesis films by graduates of both institutions, new talents is also presenting selected debut films for the first time this year. Nine movies are screened during two theme nights at Filmclub 813. After each screening, filmmakers in attendance will discuss their works with representatives of the film sector. We have also selected a film script project, which will be presented in a scenic reading.

Music/Dance

Ten musical talents have been commissioned with composition works in cooperation with the city of Cologne. All newly created works will premiere in May, at a performance by Cologne ensembles Garage and hand werk.

In addition, Cologne arts collective gRoBa will be performing in the foyer of the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum especially for the opening night, and are also going to play two more concerts on the 'long day of new talents'.

For the third edition new talents, we will feature dance as an art form for the first time. In cooperation with Kunstsalon Köln and with a concept by Mia Sophia Bilitza, six young dancers will perform in private interiors to create a very special dance  experience.

Design

For 2012, new talents has again invited selected talented graduates of the Cologne International School of Design (KISD) whose theses are outstanding examples from the fields of product- and media-design. In single presentations at haus der architektur köln all five designers will be providing insights into their creative concepts.
